Many of our clients haven’t filed their taxes in a few years or even many years. Generally, they fell behind and other more urgent matters emerged. In most cases, they have grown worried because they have heard recent stories about the IRS taking aggressive action against delinquent tax filers or they have received a letter from the IRS urging them to file immediately. In many cases, life changes have prompted them to take care of the matter. They are getting married, applying for a government job, or thinking about how their unfiled status might affect their own future benefits or hamper their beneficiaries.
If you owe back taxes and have unfiled years, let our attorneys conduct a thorough investigation before you act. Many of our clients ended up in a far worse predicament by taking the advice of their tax preparers or even CPAs. Just because someone knows how to file taxes, doesn’t mean that person understands the laws around compliance. Our attorneys know when you have to file in order to be IRS compliant, and they also know when you don’t have to file even if you might owe taxes. As a result of their comprehensive tax analysis, our legal team will provide a year-by-year guide to compliance, the resulting tax debt or savings, and the options for the best resolution if you have a tax debt.

Compliance and Resolution
Our path to tax relief and the appropriate tax resolution starts with a thorough investigation by our legal team. They examine your complete tax history, relevant documents such as IRS letters, and tax returns when appropriate to get a comprehensive view. If necessary, they then secure a stay of collections to pause aggressive IRS actions while we help you get compliant (i.e., filing missing tax returns) or collect the information or evidence you need for us to mount a successful defense or appeal. We have worked with countless clients who followed the advice of a tax preparer or CPA who did not conduct a thorough investigation. In many cases, these taxpayers ended in far worse positions than they would have been had our team conducted the comprehensive tax analysis. Any company that quotes you a fee for full services without conducting a thorough review is either charging you to much or will most likely come back for more fees. How do they know what you need? Our attorneys provide a flat-rate, guaranteed fee as part of their recommendation, and we won’t come back for more no matter how many hours we spend fighting for you!
Although not filing returns when you owe taxes is a criminal misdemeanor, the IRS is mostly concerned about collecting the tax debt. Therefore, your delinquent returns will heighten their attention, resulting in a maximized assessment including penalties and interest, and if you don’t respond to their debt notifications, the IRS could initiate more aggressive actions. More importantly, once the IRS has scrutinized your tax history, your inconsistent responses could result in a closer review or audit, which can carry an additional 20% accuracy penalty.
If you have fallen behind, you most likely need legal guidance to ensure you take the proper steps towards compliance without drawing greater attention to your case. Our legal team and tax professionals at Accelerated Tax Solutions will help ease your stress and anxiety by providing a clear path to compliance with the lowest assessed tax liability allowable by law. And if you need it, our team will provide options for a favorable agreement that will protect you from aggressive IRS action and make sure you have the funds you need to provide for yourself and your family.

Clients often report that they have heard companies claim they can reduce their tax liability to pennies on the dollar. If clients do qualify for these types of agreements, Accelerated Tax Solutions is quite experienced handling them. However, we don’t dangle these offers in front of our clients in what amounts to a bait and switch as many firms do. Many companies entice you to apply for an offer in compromise aka the Fresh Start Program, only to come back for more services after you have been rejected. Our experienced staff of tax professionals will gladly discuss all the options you qualify for. If an OIC is right for you, our team will get it done, but we certainly won’t charge you for an OIC application when we know you won’t qualify or when we know such a program is against your best interest. The IRS warns, “unscrupulous companies [engage in] scams commonly called OIC ‘mills’, which cast a wide net for taxpayers, charge them pricey fees, and churn out applications for a program they are unlikely to qualify for. In 2019, there were 54,000 OICs submitted to the IRS. The agency accepted 18,000 of them.”
But don’t worry there is a wide-range of options the can serve your needs from non-collectible status where you don’t pay anything to non-disclosure agreements that help make you eligible for penalty abatement and partial payment agreements that result in you paying less than you owe based on financial ability to pay.
Some companies ask for monthly payments for them to monitor your case and take action when necessary. These are unnecessary expenses that even the FTC warns against. What exactly are they doing for the monthly charge. If they are waiting for IRS, then you are simply paying the company to wait. And you don’t need to have a company on retainer. The IRS warns you before they take action, and our legal team can secure a stay of collections in order to complete necessary work to address the IRS claims. There is no need to pay a company to be prepared to do work. They should be able to tell you exactly what steps they are taking to address your concerns and how much those services will cost.
Although the IRS doesn’t simply agree to accept less than you owe, our legal team is aware of all of the legal routes to lowering the amount you pay.
